A Wollaton schoolgirl who is already composing her own music has been selected to represent the UK at an international music event.

Summer Catachanas, from Fernwood Primary School, will perform ‘Tweetin’ Robin’ and is some of the 12 young composers that will be performing in Monaco.

Pianist Summer is the youngest competitor at the age of seven and was chosen from a group of 600 candidates.

I had to make a few notes into a composition

Summer said: “My piano teacher gave me just a few notes and then I had to make them into a composition.”

Speaking about when she performed at a previous event in Birmingham, Summer said: “It was really exciting and I was shivering in my chair before I came on stage!

“When they said my name I just came on; I had the fastest composition I didn’t think before I went on and I was scared!”

Summer’s headteacher Mandy Austin is extremely proud of the achievement, adding she has been inspiring her classmates.

She said: “The children are all inspired by her, especially as she composed that piece of music herself and she is so confident, especially at that age playing to an audience.

“She’s very talented in lots of things as she’s extremely creative, extremely clever and she takes the most of every opportunity in school.

“Her going to Monaco of all places to get the experience is just so wonderful.”
