A Sherwood baker has made a show-stopping Motorpoint Arena replica cake celebrating the venue’s 25th anniversary.
Amy Lawson, who runs her cake company Amy’s Cake Corner, in Sherwood, was commissioned by Nick Walters, Head of Food and Beverage at the arena, to make a replica cake of the building ahead of the quarter-century milestone on Tuesday (April 1).
The arena was first opened by Olympic gold medallist Jayne Torvill in 2000, with the ice skater returning to the arena with skating partner Christopher Dean before the pair retire later this month.
Amy said: “It isn’t as simple as you think it is when you start looking into it, Google Earth was a big help. It took me a full week to make, it was about seven hours to bake all the cake then at least 40/50 more hours to decorate.
“There is a paper model of the building which I did get the chance to have a look at, but otherwise I have just used reference photos and a bit of creativity.
“The arena do a lot of work with small businesses in the area which I think is brilliant, it’s really cool that they get to support us and we really appreciate it. It’s a huge honour and privilege that people believe in my skills to make something like this out of cake,” she added.
The chocolate flavoured cake will be cut into on Sunday, with Amy hoping the Nottingham Panthers will be able to eat it after their game against Belfast Giants on Saturday.
