Watch: Stapleford Post Office moves inside gadget shop after long search for new home

Stapleford has kept its Post Office services after the branch moved inside a gadget shop.

It emerged last year the town’s old Post Office on Church Street was to shut after its owner opted not to renew a lease.

A campaign to keep its services in the town followed, with several businesses expressing an interest but only Gadgets, Derby Road, completing the process.

The counter inside the shop officially opened on Monday (January 8), supplying parcel weighing and delivery, stamps, recorded delivery and other Post Office services.

Post Office public affairs manager Richard Hall said: “It’s a vital part of the community. We’re modernising our network and it’s increasingly important that we partner with other businesses with strong retail.

“Here it’s a slightly unusual retail offer, we usually move into newsagents and convenience-type stores but we are confident it will be well used and be here for many years to come.”

Gadgets owner Sharon Jones, who now also has the title of Postmistress, said: “Everyone has shown their support and has been keen for it to be in a central position.”
