Thousands of people dressed as superheroes gathered at Wollaton Park to break a Guinness World Record.
Around 2,000 children and adults dressed as the likes of Spiderman, Catwoman and Batman broke the world record for ‘number of people dressed as superheroes in one place’.
The previous record was set in 2010 in Australia where 1580 superheroes gathered at Federation Square in Melbourne.
Wollaton Hall was the ideal place to host the superhero event as the outside was used as Batman’s mansion – Wayne Manor in the film The Dark Knight Rises.
Site manager for Wollaton Hall, Penny Beniston, said;
“Since Wollaton Hall’s alter ego is Wayne Manor, this record deserves to be held by Nottingham. With so many people [here] we have a great chance to smash the record.”
People were invited to the park between 11am and 3pm, with the Guinness World Record attempt taking place at 2pm.
There were strict rules about what kinds of costumes counted towards the record attempt, for example, no supervillain costumes were allowed and the costume had to be of a recognisable hero.
There were games, archery and even a teddy superhero competition with prizes donated by Forbidden Planet to keep children entertained.
