A theatre adaptation of a classic John Steinbeck novel is coming to the Nottingham Playhouse.

Nuffield Southampton Theatres (NST) have said The Grapes of Wrath, adapted by Frank Galati, includes Brendan Charleson, Charlie Folornusho and Andre Squire in the cast.

Running in tandem with the show at each venue are a series of initiatives in support of refugees, asylum seekers and migrant communities.

Free tickets schemes and workshops to overcome language barriers will also be in place.

NST associate and director Abbey Wright said: “The Grapes of Wrath is uncannily relevant to the world we find ourselves in today; increasing mechanisation, displacement of people, economic and environmental crisis.

“Across the world we have seen fear and hatred entering political discourse on immigration and identity.

“At the heart of The Grapes of Wrath is the need for community and love.

“Steinbeck invites us to ask ourselves ‘who is our family’ and ‘who are our children’.”

The Grapes of Wrath is about a family beginning a journey through the American dust bowl during the height of the Great Depression.

It follows their journey along Route 66 on the way to California in search of work and new lives.

Also included in the cast is Ben Bland, Daniel Booroff, Shiv Jalota, Jim Kitson, Pamela Merrick, Amy Molloy, Harry Napier, Alexander Newland, Heronimo Sehmi and Julia Swift.
