A man has died after being hit by a train between Chesterfield and Nottingham.

The man was struck close to Alfreton Station, near the Nottinghamshire border this afternoon (June 12).

Officers were called to the location at 3.50pm and attended alongside paramedics.

East Midlands Trains tweeted to say the incident has caused disruption on lines between Nottingham and Chesterfield.

Trains are being diverted and a replacement train was expected to run from Nottingham to Alfreton, calling at Ilkeston and Langley Mill, at 4.45pm.

In an update posted just after 5.00pm, the company tweeted: “We are hopeful to have trains able to run through #Alfreton again in the next hour please check for regular updates.”

Work is underway in order to identify the man and inform his family. This incident is not currently being treated as suspicious.
