Tributes continue for Nottingham teacher Ethan McKen

Nottingham teacher Ethan McKen was a “shining light” according to one of his former lecturers.

24-year-old Ethan McKen, died on Saturday after being struck by a wave in the Black Sea whilst on holiday at the popular Bulgarian resort, Sunny Beach.

McKen graduated in 2013 from Nottingham Trent University with a first class honours in Sports Science and Management. His former lecturer Graham Sharpe said that it was an honour to have known him.

He said: “I’m still choked up now. He was one of those students you’ll never forget.”

“From the first day he appeared on campus, you could tell that he was full of life.”

McKen was a P.E teacher locally and had recently signed for Nottinghamshire football team Bulwell FC from Eastwood Community FC.

His former manager at Eastwood Community FC Paul Macfarland  described Ethan as “one of the good ones”.

“Ethan as a player was an honest player, he gave you everything you asked for as a manager.”

“As a person, he was always pleasant and was a real team player.”

“It’s just shocking news.”
