Two men have been jailed after they were caught in the middle of a burglary by police on a passing routine patrol.
Notts Police said officers were on Rosemary Street, Mansfield, at 2:50am on Saturday (November 2) when they heard an alarm at the premises.
On closer inspection they saw and caught two men in the middle of the raid. They also recovered a hammer which was on the pavement outside the pharmacy.
The pair, Dean Graves, aged 51, of Welbeck Street, Mansfield, and 35-year-old Jamie Harris, of no fixed abode, were charged with burglary and appeared in Nottingham Magistrates’ Court yesterday (November 4).
Both received six month jail sentences after pleading guilty.
On the incident, Detective Chief Inspector Les Charlton, of Notts Police, said: “The officers on duty should be commended for their alertness on patrol. Detectives have then worked hard to secure charges for these two suspects.
“We take any business break-in very seriously as we understand it is an unpleasant experience to come in for a shift and discover your workplace has been ransacked.”
Across Nottinghamshire in 2023 non residential burglaries made up around seven percent of theft crime in the county – at 890 out of 12,826 incidents.
