A vacant building previously used for children’s mental health services could be demolished after suffering ‘significant vandalism’.

Planning applications for the demolition of Glenbrook Management Centre in Wigman Road, Bilborough, have been submitted to Nottingham City Council.

The unused centre neighbours Glenbrook Spencer Academy and Greenfield’s Nursery.

The building was previously used to house offices for CAMHS, a mental health service for children and adolescents, and Special Educational Needs (SEN) teams.

The SEN teams relocated in 2019 and CAMHS in 2021, with Bluecoat Aspire – part of Bluecoat Academy – using the facilities for educational purposes until February last year.

Since then, however, the site has been closed.

According to planning documents, the empty building was no longer required for service users and was securely fenced off.

A Nottingham City Council spokesperson said: “The building would have required extensive work to make it suitable for modern office accommodation.

“Given the reduced numbers of staff requiring accommodation post-Covid, it was decided that it was no longer required for this purpose.”

However, the site has been subject to various attacks from vandals since it became empty.

The council spokesperson added: “The building has undergone significant vandalism since being vacated despite extensive security measures and the safest way of dealing with this is through demolition.”

The authority submitted plans to its own planning department to fully demolish the building.

If the council approves the demolition, the dismantling of the building is expected to start in September and be completed in November.
