Video: Long Eaton Co-op robbers get stuck in shop

CCTV footage of a robbery at a Co-op store reveals the raiders got stuck inside the shop – and had to force a staff member to help them get away.

The two men targeted the shop in Sawley, Long Eaton at around 10pm on Tuesday.

They threatened staff with knives and stole cash and cigarettes before getting away on a motorbike.

Derbyshire Police are investigating and released CCTV of the incident on Draycott Road in the hope someone will recognise the men’s clothing or remember seeing them in the build-up to the crime.

The footage shows the two men burst into the shop, force some staff into a back room and fill bags and pockets with money and stock.

But as they try to leave they discover the shop’s automatic door has stopped working at some point during the raid and they are briefly trapped inside.

One wore a grey top with blue stripes down the sleeve and red crash helmet with silver stars. The other wore a blue top and a black cap. His face was covered with a blue scarf.

As part of the investigation, police are also trying to trace a man who went into the Tamworth Road Co-Op, in Long Eaton, at around 9.45pm that evening and told staff there were two men acting suspiciously outside.

A Derbyshire Police spokesman said: “He could have witnessed something which may help the inquiry. The man, who was in the company of a woman, is white and he wore a dark blue t-shirt with a round, white logo on the front.”
