Video: Muddy Dog Challenge assault course at Wollaton Hall raises more than £74,000

A messy dog assault course at Wollaton Hall raised more than £74,000 for charity.

Over the weekend, 715 participants of the Muddy Dog Challenge competed in either a 2.5 or 5km run, raising money for Battersea Dogs and Cats Home.

Dogs and their owners tackled multiple obstacles including trampolines, swimming pools filled with plastic balls, and of course, mud.

Participant David Terry, who has a collie Betty, said: “We love getting muddy, we have been training for a while now, we’ve been on the beach, through the mud and the sand, but the first obstacle with the balls in the water was her favourite.”

The rescue does not receive Government funding and relies on donations and volunteering.

Nathalie Ingham, senior K9 behaviourist at Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, said: “It’s great fun for dogs and their owners and it’s a brilliant way to raise money and funds for dogs and cats at Battersea that need to be looked after, reunited with their owners and re-homed and it’s also a fun way to raise awareness of rescue dogs across the country.”

Dawn Hood with her dog Misty said: “It’s just to enjoy the challenge but really more about having fun and supporting a good cause.”

The Wollaton event was the first of many Muddy Dog Challenges happening around the country.

The next will be on May 20 in Windsor followed by events in Essex and Kent.
