A Sneinton building which has had a £1m revamp to combine library services and neighbourhood police is now open to the public.
The Dales Centre on Sneinton Dale opened today (Tuesday May 30) replacing the Bakersfield and Sneinton libraries with a new facility along with offices for neighbourhood police.
The police used to occupy the building on their own and were going to move out before the suggestion to combine it with a library was put forward and approved.
Area operations manager for Nottingham city libraries Sue Sanderson said: “It has saved library services in The Dales.
“This is a modern facility and is more for what people want and we’ve had a lot of visitors on our first day today.
“It’s going to attract more people into the library because we’ve spent a lot of attention to detail and we want it to look as appealing as possible.”
Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture councillor Dave Trimble said the new library “offers the people of the Dales 21st century facilities they deserve”.
He said: “As we’ve seen with other libraries, we expect this will encourage more people from Sneinton and Bakersfield to make the most of their local library.
“It’s great news that this fantastic new library is opening.”
