Watch: Nottinghamshire’s Nathan Kirk going for Midlands boxing title

Watch: Nathan Kirk is training for the area lightweight title.

Nottinghamshire boxer Nathan Kirk could take his career – and the county’s boxing status – to another level if he wins his next fight.

Kirk, 28, has earned a shot at the Midlands Area Lightweight Title in Birmingham on October 28.

The sought-after belt, which covers an area stretching from the West Midlands to Notts, would take him further up the rankings and could open the door to a potential national title date.

Kirk, from Stapleford, has nine wins and two defeats from a ten-fight career which has gone to area level in less than four years.

He turned pro in 2014, having started out as a title winner in kickboxing before opting to focus on boxing.

His opponent at the Holte Suite, at Aston Villa’s Villa Park, Birmingham, is 23-year-old Charlie Williams, from Sutton Coldfield. He is undefeated so far in his eight-fight career, which comes after a long amateur run.

Williams is effectively fighting at home, but has not knocked out any of his opponents, whereas Kirk has stopped three of his – typically with the help of fearsome body punching.

“I feel this matchup is perfect for me,” he said.

“I think the style of the fight is going to be perfect, there’s a very good chance that I’ll win this.”
