Watch: The Lace Market garden oasis growing fruit and veg on Nottingham’s doorstep

A fruit and vegetable garden is turning part of Nottingham city centre into a farm-like oasis to supply fresh produce.
Hockley Homegrown uses small patches of land around the Lace Market to grow everything from runner beans to cucumbers, supplying homes and businesses.
It’s proved a hit with the area’s thriving cafe industry, meaning many of the company’s orders are picked and delivered on the day across just a few hundred metres.
“It works on borrowed or donated small spaces that come together to produce a more significant amount we then sell on,” said founder Maddie O’Brien.
“Rather than having acres and acres in a field somewhere quite far away from where all of the customers are, we thought it better to grow in the city.”
