Watch: Why a tiny piece of Nottinghamshire is heading 54.6 million miles to Mars

A little piece of Nottinghamshire will be travelling 54.6 million miles as part of the Mars Rover’s next expedition.

Advanex – a company with sites in both Southwell and Bilborough – has created a component which will be fitted into the vehicle that explores the red planet.

The firm has supplied another company with coiled metal screw thread inserts which are so strong they can withstand temperatures ranging from -195C to 426C.

They will form part of the 2020 Mars Rover Supercam, a highly powerful camera made to research information about the surface of the planet and capture images.
