A council housing group is locked in a battle with people in Arnold after saying it wants to knock down their garages to build new homes.
Gedling Homes, which owns and runs the garages in Bestwood Lodge Drive, wants to demolish them to build around 30 new properties.
But the garages are still being used by tenants who live in some of the group’s other homes nearby.
Some have started a campaign against the move, claiming their living conditions could be worsened by the plan.
Mike Evans, who lives on Heddington Gardens, said: “My garage is right at the back, I have a spinal condition, a heart condition and asthma. And having to walk further (to and from a car) with heavy shopping is going to cause me severe problems.”

Other people said they were worried the development could block access for emergency vehicles to existing homes.
The housing plan is likely to be formally submitted in around six weeks, after a public consultation.
Gedling Homes runs Gedling Borough Council’s housing stock on behalf of the authority.
Jason Cannon, director of asset management at Gedling Homes, said: “There is a need for affordable housing. We’re looking to develop about two hundred, two hundred and fifty homes, in the next three or four years, so this is part and parcel of that.
“We understand that the residents are concerned.”
The group added they would create extra alternative parking spaces nearby for people using the garage area.
Wendy Wheat, who lives on Heddington Gardens, said: “Last Sunday me and my dad went out with a petition, five hours we were out. But what’s next is us all coming together as a community, writing a letter and expressing our concerns.”
The council will have the final say on the plans. Both the council and Gedling Homes added they would take residents concerns into account while handling the application.
