Areas of Nottingham are under a blanket of thick fog this morning, causing travel disruption and a yellow weather warning.
The Met Office ‘be aware’ warning is due to last until at least midday, when it will be reviewed.
Most of the departures from East Midlands Airport this morning were delayed, but by no more than half an hour.
However, flights to Belfast and Glasgow were cancelled.
A spokesman for the airport said: “Like much of the UK, East Midlands Airport has been affected by the fog and low visibility today with some flights experiencing minor delays.
“It looks like the foggy conditions could remain throughout the morning, and we would ask customers to check with their airline about the status of their individual flight.
“Passenger safety remains our number one priority and we will work with our third parties on site to ensure all passengers are cared for during these conditions.”
Visibility is as low as 100 metres
The Met Office is expecting the fog to linger for most of the day.
A forecaster said: “The fog is very widespread throughout most of the East Midlands, especially Nottingham, where visibility is as low as 100 metres in some areas.
“We expect it to remain like this for most of the morning. The fog has formed due to very heavy rain in the region last week and a build up of moisture in the area.”
The wind levels today are very low, they added, with higher winds needed before the gloom finally shifts.
