Forecasters have issued a weather warning for parts of Nottinghamshire and say there is a chance snow will fall in the county later.
Temperatures are due to dip to 0C and wet weather could turn to snow in the evening.
A Met Office forecaster said: “Rain seems likely to turn to sleet and snow in places during Wednesday night across parts of central and southern England, before gradually easing and clearing away southeastwards on Thursday morning.
“Some places will see rain or sleet rather than snow but at least for some of the higher ground, and more locally at lower elevations, there may be a cover of snow – perhaps a few cm locally.
“Please be aware of the possibility of localised disruption to travel, and keep up to date with forecasts and warnings, which may well be updated.”
The yellow weather warning for snow for Notts means people should be prepared for the risk of bad driving conditions and check forecasts regularly.
Today looks to be cloudy throughout and a high possibility of rain and sleet making slow progress towards the South East area of Notts and snow is likely to fall on higher ground.
Maximum temperatures today will reach 5C and most areas should clear before dawn on Thursday.
The rest of tomorrow should be cloudy and Friday is due to be a fine, frosty day.
