A yellow weather warning has been issued for Nottinghamshire as 80mph winds blow across the county.
The alert was issued by forecasters and will last into the evening.
A spokesperson for the Met Office, said:”We issued the yellow warning from 1am this morning and it is expected to go on until 6pm tonight.
“If people are travelling, driving or out in the wind today, be careful and be prepared because it can get up to 80mph in exposed areas.”
There could be delays to main roads around the county during the strong winds, so motorists are advised to plan ahead before travelling.
Met Office advice: What to do during strong winds
- Stay indoors as much as possible
- If you do go out, try not to walk or shelter close to buildings and trees
- Do not go outside to repair damage while the storm is in progress
- If possible, enter and leave your house through doors in the sheltered side, closing them behind you
- Slow down and be aware of side winds, particular care should be taken if you are towing or are a high sided vehicle
- Do not drive unless your journey is really necessary
