Man’s body discovered in Wollaton Park lake

Wollaton Park's entrances were closed off on Friday afternoon.

A man’s body has been discovered in the lake at Wollaton Park in Nottingham.

Notts Police said emergency services were called at 12.59pm today (Friday) after the body was reported by a member of the public.

Officers said the man’s family has since been informed and an investigation into what happened is ongoing.

Detective Inspector Lisa Jones, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This is a tragic discovery and our thoughts this afternoon are with this man’s family and friends.

“Whilst our investigation into what happened remains at an early stage, we don’t currently believe his death to be suspicious.

“As we work to understand how this man came to be in the water, I would like to appeal to any additional witnesses to come forward.”

Several people posted on social media to say there was a heavy police and ambulance presence around the lake area at around 1pm on Friday.

Some said they had been asked to leave quickly by staff and officers. The hall and grounds were then closed off shortly afterwards.

Emily Burton posted on X: “My daughter just got kicked off there, said it all seemed very frantic.”

The Nottingham park posted on Facebook to say it was “temporarily closed” following the incident.

More police vehicles including a crime scene investigation van were later seen entering the area just after 3pm.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Notts Police on 101 quoting incident 265 of January 3.
