World War Two air raid shelter in West Bridgford street brought back to life

An abandoned World War Two air raid shelter in West Bridgford has been brought back to life to allow local school children to learn more about the conflict.

The restoration project at Abbey Circus was organised by Nottingham Trent University and Rushcliffe Borough Council.

Around 100 people from the local community could shelter in the bunker when it was in use, but the site was left derelict after the war ended in 1945.

Now ventilation, a screen for education, and safe access means children from local schools can use it on pre-planned trips.

Jack Simms reports.
