Nottingham Arena has brought in tight controls on bag sizes and extra checks as security is tightened in response to the Manchester bombing.

People making event bookings are getting emails from ticket provider See Tickets advising them of the changes.

“A new bag policy is in place. It’s part of the enhanced security measures for
all major events and means you can only take handbags and other small bags (no
larger than 35cm x 40cm x 19cm) into the arena with you,” it read.

“Please note that anyone with a larger bag than this will not be admitted into the venue.”

Security has been reviewed at major events and landmarks around the country after the May 22 suicide attack on an Ariana Grande concert at Manchester Arena, which killed 22 people and injured more than 100.

Advice in the See Tickets emails to Nottingham concertgoers continues: “You should arrive as early as possible and allow more time for security checks when arriving at the venue.

“These extra checks may increase the length of queues so please give yourself plenty of time to arrive and enter the venue.”

The next big event at the arena is Mrs Brown’s Boys, which runs June 8-10.

The Pet Shop Boys are due to play the venue on Thursday, June 22.

Government ministers asses the current UK terror threat level as ‘severe’, meaning an attack is ‘highly likely’, having lowered it from ‘critical’ on May 30.

Notts Police are still running extra armed and unarmed police patrols as part of the national response to the threat.

In the wake of last month’s attack, staff at Nottingham Arena said they had been left “shocked and deeply saddened”.

Management of the venue added in a statement: “All arenas will continue to work together to share best practice from security experts, the police and one another to implement robust security procedures which are tested and reviewed regularly, in order that we can provide the safest possible environment for our customers to enjoy.”
