DNA testing has confirmed a body found in Bristol is that of missing music figure DJ Derek.
The 73-year-old, whose real name was Derek Serpell-Morris, was well-known for performing at Nottingham venues and had not been seen since leaving a pub in Bristol in July.
He is from the south-west but was known locally having regularly played Nottingham venues including The Bodega and the Golden Fleece.
The body was found in woodland close to Bristol’s Cribbs Causeway shopping centre on March 10.
An Avon and Somerset Constabulary spokesman said: “DNA tests have confirmed that human remains found in a wooded area in Patchway are trhose of missing 73-year-old Derek Serpell-Morris.
“Derek’s family have been updated and our thoughts remain with them at this very difficult time.
“A post-mortem examination carried out earlier this week was inconclusive and further tests are being progressed, but we’re not treating Derek’s death as suspicious.”
