The family of a woman who died following an assault in Newark have described her as a ‘truly compassionate, kind and selfless woman’.

Karen Jacquet, 59, was pronounced dead at the scene after police officers were called to an address in Mill Gate at around 5.10pm on Wednesday August 17.

Karen’s family have issued a joint statement which said: “Karen was the heart of our family – a truly compassionate, kind and selfless woman who gave much to us.

“We are utterly devastated by her death and the ripples of her passing have spread far and wide.

“We know our loss will be felt by the vast amount of people Karen’s warmth and love touched.

“We would like to express our thanks to the police officers and medical staff at Helimed29 who tried to help Karen.”

Yousef Mohammed, 65, of Mill Gate in Newark, was charged with murder in connection with the incident.

He appeared at Nottingham Crown Court on Monday August 21 and was remanded in custody to appear at the same court on November 10.
