Fears Eastwood violence will lead to people ‘barricading themselves in’

People living in Eastwood say they have been left wary of going out after two violent incidents within a day.

A man was stabbed on Monday (February 15) with police called to an address at 7.45pm on Ryemere Close.

Just 24 hours earlier, a ‘gun was fired at a window’ on Comet Close (pictured) at around 8.10pm on Sunday (February 14), although no-one was hurt.

Both areas are not known for regular violent crime and families living nearby say they have been left in shock.

Police say they are treating the incidents as separate investigations.

It’s not nice to hear about

Owen Brassington, a resident of Ryemere Close, said: “It’s tragic; sadly bad things happen, it’s not nice to hear about.

“I mean there’s people that you say hi to every morning and you can stop and have a chat but when something like this [stabbing] happens, everyone barricades themselves indoors and don’t want to go out.

“Hopefully the person who is in hospital pulls through.”

In Comet Close residents told Notts TV News people had been left stunned by the shooting.

One person, who did not want to be named, said they’d been left “scared” with another, who also asked to remain anonymous saying a gunshot sounded like a “car door closing”, adding “it’s not great on your doorstep”.

Police said on Wednesday they had arrested three men in connection with the Rymere Close incident.

The victim is still in hospital.
