A Nottingham man who was briefly on the run after failing to attend his sentencing for internet child grooming offences is now in custody.

A warrant was issued for the arrest of Ricky Slade, 29, after he failed to appear at Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday morning (January 24).

He was due to be sentenced after being caught grooming fake profiles of young girls by an online ‘paedophile hunting’ group, but did not attend the hearing.

A judge issued a bench warrant for his arrest, but the court was told 24 hours later on Wednesday (January 25) he is now in custody.

A judge placed Slade on remand, meaning he will stay in custody, until sentencing, which will now be on February 16.

At a hearing last month Slade admitted three charges of attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity and one attempt to meet a child for sex.

He had been released on bail while a pre-sentence report was prepared.

Online group ‘The Hunted One’ used a decoy fake profile of a 10-year-old girl, which Slade arranged to meet for sex in November. Instead he was met by members of the group, who called police.

Slade, originally from the Meadows, is now of no fixed address.
