Video: Alan Smith on preparing for Morecambe which he says could be his only game
Speaking in his first press conference as caretaker manager, Alan Smith has his sights set on picking up three points from what he believes will be his one and only game in charge.
The Magpies’ trip to Morecambe’s Globe Arena on Saturday (January 7) is the first since John Sheridan ‘left his position’ on Monday following a 4-0 defeat away to Cambridge United.
Alan Smith was announced as caretaker manager the day after and manages the side that currently sits 22nd in Sky Bet League 2 just one point above the relegation zone.
I learned so much from John Sheridan
Smith said: “There are good people who work really hard behind the scenes to make sure that everything has run smoothly and it has made it a lot easier than coming from the outside.
“My biggest decision has got to be the team that we play and the difficulty is choosing that.
“I learned so much from John Sheridan – he’d been into clubs in circumstances like this, hence why I asked how he would feel about me taking over for a short while, and you learn how to approach things.”
Notts County record v Morecambe
Played: 9
Won: 2
Drawn: 3
Lost: 4
Earlier in the season, Morecambe took all three points away from Meadow Lane after the initial staging was abandoned after 10 minutes on October 1 2016.
The score was 0-0 as the heavens opened up over Meadow Lane which waterlogged the pitch.
The restaging happened 10 days later and saw the Shrimps swoop all three points from the Magpies.
Tom Barkhuizen scored in each half to put Morecambe 2-0 up before Vadaine Oliver scored a consolation goal deep into second half stoppage time.
