Police name man killed in Forest Rec park and ride collision

Police have named the man who died as Omar Shafiq, 48.

Police have named the man killed in a crash on the Forest Rec park and ride as 48-year-old Omar Shafiq.

Mr Shafiq died in the early hours of Tuesday (October 23) following a collision with a car at the site in Forest Fields.

Emergency services were called to the scene and he was taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre just after 2am, but was pronounced dead on arrival.

On Wednesday night his family issued a statement in tribute, which read: “Omar was a wonderful man that was loved, will be missed, and will always be cherished.

“‘Ozzy,’ as he was called by his family and close friends, was an amazing son, and his untimely death has left a big hole in our lives.”

Police closed off the Forest park and ride on Tuesday morning while officers examined the scene.

Three men, aged 18, 23 and 25, were arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of murder.

On Wednesday evening (October 24) the 23-year-old man was released without charge. The 18-year-old and 25-year-old remain in custody while enquiries continue.
