“They come here because they trust in the club and trust me.

“We now have three months to win as many games as possible and to build the squad for the following season.”

One of the players signed on deadline day was 25-year-old winger Joe Lolley from Huddersfield Town on a four-and-a-half year deal for an undisclosed fee.

He said he wanted to sign for Forest as soon as he heard the club and Karanka were interested.

Lolley said: “One of the reasons I wanted to leave was to play regular football – I wanted a fresh start somewhere and to enjoy myself a little more than what I have over the past six-to-12 months.

“It seemed like the perfect fit from what I’ve seen so far.

“Karanka doesn’t take lightly to things, shown by the fact so many players came in and out yesterday.

“You have to work hard, be a strong character and if you do that you’ll be rewarded; if not, we’ve all seen what happens!”
