Nottinghamshire swimmers Oliver Hynd and Charlotte Henshaw hope to secure their spots at the Rio 2016 Paralympics within days.

Both will be competing in Glasgow at the British Para-Swimming International Meet which starts on Saturday, which could see them qualify.

Hynd, 21, won gold in the 200m individual medley at the 2012 Paralympics and Henshaw, 29, won  a silver in the 100m breaststroke in the same games.

Both are coached by Mansfield’s Glenn Smith, who also coaches up and coming Notts swimmers Ben Foulstone and Kiera Shepherd, also competing at Glasgow this weekend.

The most important domestic competition

He said: “This is the most important domestic competition for British Para swimmers in four years as it’s the culmination of a season’s work and I’m looking forward to the competition.

“It’s great that we have so much local support which is a massive boost going into the Glasgow trials.

“All four swimmers are in great shape and looking forward to it.”

Hynd will be looking to repeat his performance at the IPC World Championships last year where he won gold in the 200m individual medley and the 400m freestyle.

He also won bronze in the 100m backstroke and was just 0.3 seconds off gold.

Henshaw will be keen to make her mark in the 100m breaststroke after breaking the European record and taking a silver medal at the World Championships last year.
