Man pleads guilty to death of 19-year-old crash victim

Thomas Burney pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving under the influence of alcohol at Nottingham Crown Court today.

Mr Burney, 26, appeared via video link from HMP Nottingham and pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving and of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

19-year-old Bryony Hollands was killed when Mr Burney’s car ploughed into her and her boyfriend as they were walking down Woodthorpe Drive last month.

Bryony died shortly after being taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre on August 21. An off-duty nurse had battled to save her at the scene.

Her boyfriend who was walking with her, 20-year-old Ben Evans, was “seriously injured” but has been discharged from hospital and is now recovering at home.

The case has been adjourned until 23rd October.

Mr Burney will be remanded in custody and is awaiting a psychiatric report.
