Akie, the police dog who received a Crown Court Commendation

A Nottinghamshire police dog has earned an award for his role in catching a man who fled from officers.

Akie is a three-and-a-half year old German Shepherd who has been working for the police for two-and-a-half years and received the award for tracking the man for for more than a mile along paths, woods and train tracks before finding him in a field.

Akie was recognised by His Honour Judge Spencer QC and received a Crown Court Commendation.

He is the first dog his handler, PC Mark Haywood, has worked with and Mark has been with Akie since he was just seven weeks old.

He’ll definitely be getting an extra treat!

Mark said: “He did fantastic work in tracking the man involved and it’s only right he’s recognised for the role he played.

“He’ll definitely be getting an extra treat as a reward!

“I’m so proud of him.”
