Managers have confirmed Mansfield Post Office will shut and move to a new location inside the Four Seasons Shopping Centre.
A consultation had been run by Post Office Limited to move the outlet from Church Street to inside WH Smith in the centre.
On Wednesday managers announced the new branch will make the move and offer the same range of services the current one provides.
Roger Gale, Post Office’s, sales boss, said: “We hope the change will help ensure the branch is commercially viable into the future and therefore protect Post Office services on which costumers in Mansfield depend.
“Our costumers’ needs continue to change and we are responding to that, taking the right action to sustain our services for years to come.
“We are committed to remaining on high streets and at the heart of communities and we are making changes right across our network to enable us to do so.”
The new branch will have five counter positions with opening hours from 9am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday, and 9am to 12.30pm on Saturdays.
Mansfield Post Office on Church Street will close on March 8 and the new branch will open the next day.
Mansfield District Council Executive Mayor Kate Allsop has criticised the plans.
She said: “The White Hart Street and Church Street area is a vital part of the town centre with many independent retailers who rely on footfall.
“The current location of the Post Office helps to maintain football in the area and support them.”
In Stapleford, the search process for a new Post Office site is still ongoing after more 200 local residents signed a petition protesting against moving the current branch inside a Bargain Booze.
According to local councillor Richard McRae, two or three shops are currently interested in taking over the postal services but nothing official has been announced by the Post Office.
McRae said: “It might be the only time someone gets to speak to someone when they go to the post office and to get different kinds of benefits or pensions.
“This should be down to the people, it should be their choice.”
As before the final decision for a location will be down to a six-week public consultation period once the Post Office announces its candidate.
The Burton Joyce Post Office is set to move a couple doors down to 53 Main Street at the Delights of Burton Joyce deli and gift shop.
Burton Joyce Village Society chairman Steve Wright said: “The location is still very central, in fact, there have been problems for years because of the steep slope outside the door of the present Post Office, and that will be easier at the new address.
“We have a high proportion of elderly people in the village and a surprising number of people here are not on the internet which means services like international parcels, transcash, and the passport checking and sending system will be a significant loss to many in Burton Joyce.
“We are urging the Post Office management to keep those services locally.”
