Nottinghamshire Police have said there will be an ‘increased presence’ in the city ahead of England’s World Cup semi-final against Croatia.

England reached the semi-finals of the World Cup for the first time since 1990 after beating Sweden 2-0 in their quarter-final at the weekend.

However following that game, there were a small number of incidents on Saturday (July 7).

Notts Police had additional resources throughout the city centre at the weekend as a number of venues were showing the game but a number of arrests were made for public order offences.

One incident involved damage to a taxi and a 27-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Chief Inspector Simon Allardice said: “The vast majority of people enjoyed Saturday’s celebrations safely and these incidents relate to a select number of people who took things too far.

“We want people to enjoy this momentous occasion but safely and with respect for others.

“We ask people who are out for the event on Wednesday (July 11) to consider their actions, particularly when the sun is shining and alcohol is involved, and be mindful that there will be an increased police presence.

“It’s completely unacceptable for a handful of people to ruin the celebrations for others and we won’t tolerate this sort of behaviour in Nottingham.”
