Nottingham Light Night: Programme of events

Tonight is Nottingham Light Night, a “fantastic night of discovery” with over 40 free arts and culture events in the city centre.

The event, organised by Nottingham City Council, kicks of at 3pm with the “Light – Design – Art – Interiors” exhibition at Dezigne on Goosegate and doesn’t finish until well into the night.

Whats On?

Nottingham Castle Quarter: All events are free in this area

Nottingham Castle 6pm- 9pm

Stroll round the illuminated grounds and take part in a number of special activities going on within the museum and galleries within the castle. Children must be accompanied with an adult.

Brewhouse Yard 6pm – 9pm

The Museum of Nottingham Life at Brewhouse Yard will open the museum specially for Light Night. Entry is free. Last entry at 8:30.

Robin Hood Statue 6pm – 9pm

Illuminate our Minds and Reflect – children from Seely Primary and Nursery School, who’ve written their own stories and poems for Light Night will read them aloud.
Medieval to Star Wars: English combat – see light sabres in action as medieval fighting, Star Wars style, kicks off between 7pm – 9pm

Outside Nottingham Castle 6pm – 10pm

BodyRemixer – have your photo taken and chopped into three and mixed up with other people and project it onto the building.

St James Hotel 6pm -late

Art at St. James – Artist Mary Hayes has installed light works in the hotel gallery, looking at the history of colour, light and pigments. It will be accompanied by free live music and a late bar.

St Nic’s Chruch 6.30pm to 9.30pm

Live Music Café – Live music at the café at St Nic’s Church.

The Nottingham Gamelan orchestra “Naga Lelana” will also perform at the Castle café throughout the evening

City Centre

Nottingham Tourism Centre

Nottingham’s Forgotten Nooks and Crannies Walking Tour – Setting off from outside the Tourism Centre exploring forgotten walkways and alleyways with some historical tales thrown in. Starts at 6.15pm and lasts for 90 minutes. £5 per person.

Old Market Square

The Wheel of Nottingham – open all day and a chance to see the city from sixty metres high in the air. For ticket information head here.
The Light Fantastic Physics Buskers. 6pm to 10pm. Free entry.

Nottingham Central Library 4.30pm -9pm

Various events including:
Launch of Nottingham Children’s Book Award 2015 – A great activity for 2 to 4 year olds. 4.30pm to 5.30pm
Johnny and the Raindrops – Dance and sing along to original and lively music between 6pm -7pm. Suitable for all ages.
Falling for the Ushers by Marty Ross – an updated dramatic retelling of Edgar Allan Poe’s classic story. Suitable for ages 13 and up. Tickets £2.50. Book on 0115 9152825. 7.30pm to 9pm.
