A children’s home planned for a street in a Rushcliffe village has been given the green light.
Rushcliffe Borough Council approved an application to turn a detached home into ‘supported living accommodation’ for up to three people under the age of 18 in Ruddington.
As part of the plans, the ‘dependent’ people will live at the home with 24-hour care provided by up to two appropriate adults operating on a shift basis.
Applicant Homes2Inspire said it provides “non-institutional therapeutic living environments” where staff work with young people to “enable them to develop inner controls, respect for self and others and take responsibility for their actions”.
They said the young people between the age of eight and 18 would be at the home in Loughborough Road and 11 members of staff would work at the home in total.
Three bedrooms would be occupied by the young people and one would be occupied by the member of care staff. The kitchen, living accommodation and the garden would be shared.
The carers would “provide care that echoes a regular family environment”, including securing school places, helping with improving confidence and encouraging new hobbies.
Council documents stated: “The young people would share mealtimes together with the adult carers generally being responsible for preparing the meals, however, where appropriate, the young people would be encouraged to prepare food and wash their own clothes.
“The young persons will receive the necessary care and support they require within a family environment, with the accommodation available to them in perpetuity until they are ready to return to their family home, foster care or semi-independent living.”
