Forest manager Freedman determined to work through financial difficulties

Dougie Freedman, Nottingham Forest

Dougie Freedman believes a new recruitment policy could help the financial situation at Nottingham Forest, after the club announced a loss of £22.9 million in the latest accounts.

The number is for the 2013/14 season, ending on May 31, 2014 and is up by almost £5.9m on the previous season when the club made a loss of £17.05m.

Forest also have a net debt of £50.7 million but manager Freedman believes that if the right recruitment policy is put in place, they won’t have these problems in the future.

“Money has been over spent in the past and the recruitment policy needs to change in order to change the figures which have been released today,” he said.

“The chairman has been wonderful in supporting the club but now, in order to play within the rules we can’t spend any of his money at the moment.”

“So therefore my job is to bring in players that are the right fit for the club and not before, so if a name comes up that I think will be right then I will have a look at them.”
