Mark Wood set to play in Nottingham Ashes Test

Alastair Cook says that Mark Wood has trained well and is in position to come into the starting eleven of the 4th Ashes Test at Trent Bridge.

Cook all but confirmed that the Durham pace bowler will be returning to the England side, replacing the injured Jimmy Anderson.

“It looks really good for Woody. He seems to have come through training pretty good. We’ll have one last check in the morning.”

“I thought he bowled really well at Cardiff and he looks fit and ready. Everything he’s been asked to do, he’s come through with flying colours so he’s really excited, I think, at the opportunity he’s got.”

Australia’s batting performances this series have come under criticism from pundits but Cook says that he is only interested in how his team performs.

“We can’t control how Australia bat. We can only control how we bowl, how we bat, how we operate in the field”

His counterpart Michael Clarke has struggled to find his form so far this series. However, he is confident that he will be back to his best in this test.

“My preparation for this test has been exactly the same. I look forward to coming out here and performing like we did at Lord’s, try to put on a really good performance and I’d like to lead the way as captain.”
