Amber Peat: Police investigate false Facebook claims

Nottinghamshire Police are investigating a Facebook troll who falsely claimed Amber Peat was murdered.

Troll’s are very common on social media site’s, known for posting offensive comments on people’s online pages.

More recently however, following the report that a body was found during the search for Amber Peat, a troll took to Facebook to make false claims about what had happened to her.

Amber, 13, went missing from her home on Saturday. After a three day search her body was found in Mansfield.

A fake Facebook profile was used to claim that the user had murdered the teenager and that she would not be found.

Nottinghamshire Police said they will be “robustly investigating” anyone who publishes such appalling posts on social media.

From the moment Amber was reported missing our teams worked tirelessly alongside the community to try and find her.

Superintendent Matt McFarlane, Nottinghamshire Police.

Officers are not treating Amber’s death as suspicious.
