Amber Peat: Police response to be investigated

Nottinghamshire Police’s response during the search for the 13 year old is to be reviewed.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is investigating how officers handled reported sightings from the public.

Amber was reported missing after leaving her Mansfield home at around 5:30pm on May 30 after what was described as a minor row with her parents.

“We made a voluntary referral to the IPCC and will fully support their investigation.”

Nottinghamshire Police statement

After a three day search involving hundreds of local people Amber’s body was discovered in an area of undergrowth about a mile away from her house.

Police are not treating her death as suspicious.

A spokesperson for the IPCC said: “We are conducting an independent investigation into Nottinghamshire Police’s response to the missing person’s report concerning Amber Peat.”

“The investigation is in its early early stages and we have made initial contact with Amber’s family to inform them of our investigation.”

A Nottinghamshire Police statement said: “We made a voluntary referral to the IPCC and will fully support their investigation.”

“Referrals like this are part of standard procedure for cases with such high public interest, we do this to ensure transparency.”

An inquest has been opened and adjourned until a later date.
