Beeston to be twinned with Tuscany

The twinning of the two regions is predicted to boost Beeston’s economy, making it a tourist destination.

The ‘twinning’ will coincide with the recent redevelopments to Beeston Sqaure in a bid to boost tourism, following the lengthy tram works. It is predicted to help boost tourism in art and culture across both areas.

An Italian artist, Roberto Alborghetti, who is also the official biographer of Pope Francis established the link between the two places after becoming fascinated with a Trent Barton’s bus, which became the inspiration for his paintings.

He will be touring around the UK with the ‘ghost bus’.

Roberto Alborghetti explains why he loves Beeston’s ‘Ghost Bus’.

The picturesque Italian region is renowned for it’s world famous art work and architecture from the Renaissance era, including Michael Angelo’s ‘David’.

50 Beeston locals will travel to the Italian region in October, 10 locals have confirmed their places already.

For those interested in taking part, a meeting will be held at the Star Inn, in Middle Street, tonight from 6.30pm. There will be Italian music afterwards to get people in to the spirit of it.

The major of Broxtowe, Councillor Susan Bagshaw has said she would support the move if a motion went before the council to make it official.

However, it is debatable whether Broxtowe Borough Council will be able to afford to make the twinning official.

At present, Broxtowe is twinned with Gutersloh, in Germany, and Polish town Myszkow.
