This week is World Breastfeeding Week –Â an awareness raising campaign organised by the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA).
A support group for breastfeeding mothers in Bestwood, is promoting breastfeeding and says that there are many benefits to both mother and child. Including many important health benefits, as well as helping developing a bond with the baby.
Taylor Dial and Rachel Daly, two local mothers, recently became qualified breastfeeding support volunteers after benefiting from the Nottingham service themselves.
Ms Dial said: ‘I really enjoy supporting all the new mums and being a friend to them. I had a lot of support when I first started breastfeeding and wanted to give back the same thing.’

Taylor, who breast feeds her two-year-old son, believes that by society’s standards he may seem too old, due to the stigma associated with breastfeeding older children.
Rachel Daily, another breastfeeding support worker, who recently qualified will soon work with her own group.

She says: ‘I am really looking forward to start working with new mums. I enjoy seeing breastfeeding progress, as it’s not always plain sailing.’
‘I think some people see bottle feeding as more convenient, but the opposite is true. It takes far more time to prepare a bottle for your child.’
She is also currently breastfeeding her toddler and says she will stop when he is ready.
