Cable theft brings Nottingham-Mansfield trains to a halt

Trains on the Robin Hood Line between Nottingham and Mansfield were replaced by buses after a cable theft brought services to a halt.

East Midlands Trains says the route was closed on Friday after the overnight theft and replacement travel was organised.

Engineers said the metal cabling stolen was used for signalling equipment and the problem also caused disruption on the route to Langley Mill.

Services were back to normal by  around 1pm after repairs were made.

An East Midlands Trains spokesman said at the time of the breakdown: “All of our trains on the routes cannot run through the area and will be diverted and may experience delays of up to 15 minutes in both directions between Nottingham-Mansfield/Langley Mill.”

The operator said Network Rail engineers arrived on site early on the Friday to fix the problem with replacement cable.
