A charity set up in memory of a young Nottingham woman who died of kidney failure has passed another milestone.

Danielle’s Flutterbyes was set up by Ruth Braddock when her daughter Danielle died in December 2014 aged just 24.

After the tragedy, relatives of the Wilford woman vowed to help other young people cope with the condition.

I wouldn’t want any other young person to go through the same thing Danielle did

Ruth, founder of Danielle’s Flutterbyes, said: “At the time of her death she was very unhappy, she was very ill through the kidney failure, and because of the way she died I wouldn’t want any other young person to go through the same hell and misery Danielle did.”

The money raised through fundraising is used to take young people suffering from the disease on holidays or days out.

Now the charity is in the process of producing posters which explain how important kidneys are and educate young people what the organs do in the body.

It also held a fundraising day at the Low Pavement branch of TSB on Friday – the latest in a series of events which have raised more than £10,000.

Cage fighter Dan Hardy was also at the event and donated a signed glove and picture for a raffle.

He said:”Danielle was very close to my family, my mum looked after her for a number of years and it’s such a sad story, I’m sure there are a lot of young people suffering with the same thing with not being diagnosed.

“If we can bring more awareness to it then that is what we need to do, and as much money we can raise to help young people with the struggle they are going through.”

An auction for the charity will be held on March 11 at the Forest supporters club where there will be a variety of sport memorabilia up for grabs.

Entry is free but donations will be accepted on the door.
