Care home appeals for people to attend funeral of 77-year-old former soldier

Alex McDougall

A formerĀ soldier from Nottinghamshire has died with no known family, the care home where he spent his last days is appealing for family or friends to attend his funeral.

Alex McDougall, 77, who served his country proudly for 30 years, has passed away.

He was born in Scotland, where he lost his parents to a car crash at a young age. From there Mr McDougall joined the army, serving as a gunner in Cyprus and Portugal.

He developed a fondness for jazz music and became a keen follower of Rangers FC.

Mr McDougall moved to Beeston and in his later years suffered from dementia, before dying from cancer in Beeston Lodge Nursing Home.

Without any known friends or family, the funeral for the much beloved nursing home resident could be empty.

Beeston Lodge Nursing Home, who cared for Mr McDougall for 18 years, hasĀ started a campaign to find any remaining family or friends of Mr McDougall.

Aisha Morrell, Activities and Welfare Manager at the home, spoke very fondly of Mr McDougall.
