Rushcliffe Independent Ted Birch won the Cropwell ward seat which was previously held by Conservative Cllr Gordon Moore.

The former leader of the council Simon Robinson stepped down before the local elections and deputy leader Andy Edyvean will step in until a new leader is announced by the council on May 25th.

It comes after the Conservatives lost dozens of seats across the county after the public took to the polls on May 4.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said today: “It’s always disappointing to lose hard working Conservative councillors and I am so grateful to them for everything they have done.

“I am going to carry on delivering on the people’s priorities; halving inflation, growing the economy, reducing debt, cutting waiting lists and stopping the boats.”
