Drug dealing pair sent to prison for haul of cocaine

Darren Dunne Gemma South drugs huckanll, police

A drug dealer and his associate caught with thousands of pounds worth of cocaine and heroin have been sent to prison.

Darren Dunne, 32, of Hucknall, also had a stash of guns and ammunition when police raided his home on Farleys Lane in November 2014.

His associate Gemma South, 29, was caught with bags of cocaine.

Temporary Det Chief Insp Karen Pearson said: “It is very disturbing that a determined criminal such as Dunne has been able to obtain these weapons.

“Thankfully, the excellent work of the investigative team means he will never be given the opportunity to use them to threaten or to carry out acts of violence.”

Nottingham Crown Court was told detectives found a gift bag belonging to Dunne containing a large amount of heroin and cocaine with a potential street value of £180,000.

Analysis of mobile phones found at the house also showed he had been messaging people about selling the drugs.

Officers also found three illegal guns, one of which was already loaded, and a large quantity of ammunition.

Around £10,000 in cash was also found at the house.

When analysing the fingerprints on the gift bag, police matched one to Gemma South. Officers went to her home the same day and found more bags containing cocaine.

Dunne was charged with three counts of possession of a firearm, three counts of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, possession of ammunition, possession with intent to supply cocaine and possession with intent to supply heroin.

He pleaded guilty to all the offences at a hearing in November and on Friday was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

South, of Malbon Close, was charged with possession with intent to supply cocaine. She denied the offence but was convicted on November 13 after a trial and given a three-and-a-half-year term.

They will no longer be able to profit

Temporary Det Chief Insp Pearson added: “While the sentencing of Darren Dunne and Gemma South is obviously very welcome, it is perhaps even more satisfying to know that three guns have been taken off the streets of Nottinghamshire.

“This outcome also means that we have again disrupted part of the drugs supply network in Nottinghamshire, ensuring that Dunne and South will no longer be able to profit from the sale of the heroin or cocaine that they had acquired.”
