Forest Rec fireworks to go off with a bang despite rain

Giant Bonfire at Forest Recreation Ground

Final preparations are underway for one of Europe’s biggest fireworks displays at Forest Recreation Ground.

Around 40,000 people are expected to flock to Forest Fields tonight for a night of fun, food and fireworks.

The event will get started around 5.30pm, with the main display starting at 9pm.

We are very much hoping the weather doesn’t put people off today.

Organisers of the event are not worried about the bleak weather effecting the night and hope people won’t be put off.

The current forecast is for light rain and cloud at around 5.30, but dry weather is expected by around 7.30pm.

Emma Kemshell works for the Mellors Group event company and helped to organise the festivities.

She said: “We are very much hoping the weather doesn’t put people off today.”

“We’re expecting a bit of a larger crowd this year, hopefully in the 50,000 region. Our fireworks will be bigger and better than ever before. ”

And Stallholders were adamant that nothing could dampen their spirits tonight, including the rain.

With hundreds of food stalls and rides available to the public, there is something for everyone, including a bar for the very first time at one of these events.

So if you’re still looking for somewhere to spend Guy Fawkes night, look no further than Forest Fields.

Things will get underway at 5.30pm with a fun fair. At 7.15, there is a children’s firework display before the bonfire is lit half an hour later.

The main firework display will begin at 9pm.
