The Goose Fair is back – and this year it includes more than 500 attractions including an on-site licensed bar.
The event returns at 5.30pm on Wednesday and runs until Sunday night at the Forest Rec.
Around 350,000 visitors are expected across the week, with other new additions including live music performances.
Neil Ehrhart from Nottingham City Council said: “The idea of it is to offer a different type of attraction, so that if people are getting a bit tired, they can get a rest, get under cover and have a quiet drink while they’re here at the bar.
“We don’t see it as a risk – it’s a family-themed bar, well-controlled, with security staff on there and with a challenge-25 policy so there’ll be no under-age drinking .”
Once again the 42m big wheel will be one of the highlights, offering unparalleled views across the city.
Douglas Taylor, managing director of M&D Events, oversees the attraction. He said: “You need about ten men on a three-day set up for it, we’re doing safety checks, there’s a lot goes on behind the scenes that the general public don’t see.”Picture: The official ride plan for this year’s event (click to enlarge)
“Goose Fair is absolutely fantastic. I see people here I only see once a year – I see friends here, as well as being business, it’s a very social affair.”
The Forest Rec has hosted the event since 1927 but the fair dates back some 700 years.
Admission is free, and ride charges vary from £1.50 to £5, with most costing £2 to £3.
