A new Lidl supermarket will be built alongside 62 homes on the site of a former plastics factory.
Nottingham City Council’s planning committee gave the scheme the green light and it will soon be built on the site of the former Chronos Richardson plastics factory off Belconnen Road near Nottingham City Hospital.
During the meeting on Wednesday, December 21, councillors also approved 62 new homes by housing developer MyPad.
“The store would have a gross internal area of 1,895 [square meters],” planning documents say.
“The car park would provide 100 standard spaces, four disabled, nine parent and child and four with electric vehicle charging points.”
A representative for supermarket giant Tesco opposed the plans on two occasions, claiming the site should be used for housing.
However the applicant argued it is assumed the objection is down to “commercial reasons”.
Councillors unanimously approved the plans, conditional to the appropriate management of the site, more trees being planted in the Lidl car park and some slight alterations to borders and fencing on the new estate.
